what eats zoo flakes?

the little scaley stuff that comes off zoos--what eats that? what eats dead/dying zoos?

i have a few zoos in qt, and i'm trying SOOOO hard not to stick my hands in there (five times a day). at least with my display tank, there is more dilution for my hand pollution...i know, i'm trying there too...


so what can i put in the qt tank to help the zoos?

its just a 10g bb with eggcrate racks, a heater, a pw, and a 15w light. (we need more light...ideas for that too?)

i'll get a picture tomorrow...its like if you had really dry skin, or the last (or very first) day of a sunburn...its not really bad, its just kind of...prevalent...

Close up pictures will definitely help. I will wait to say anything until I see the picture since I don't want to shock you into doing things in panic again.

I try not to stick my hands too much into my tanks. The things on my hand and arm (natural skin oil, soap residue, fragrance, lotions, etc.) is not only best for the livestock, but I also always managed to get my sleeves really wet. No fun at all in winter.

Lately I am using a long shoulder length veterinary OB glove when I have to reach into my tank quickly for something. It's a very thin disposable type, but I can reuse it several times. I can actually feel that I am holding something in my hand with this glove unlike the red and blue thick Aquarium gloves.

A local vet can order a box of them for us if anyone wants some.

I am definitely in on the gloves. I completely agree with what you said Tomoko. I hate using the aquarium gloves. Right now I use a a very light foam soap to clean my hands and arms before I put my hands in the tank. The gloves would be a big help. Please PM me if more people are interested.

I will keep you in mind. If you want some right away, those disposable OB gloves (poly gloves not polymer ones) sold by Tractor Supply will work, too. They tend to bust at the seams more easily, though. Any of these are not meant for heavy duty work. If you don't want sessile snails penerating them, you can always use nitrile or latex gloves over it (secured with a rubber band.)
