What exactly do I need for plumbing?

Alright, I am terrible when it comes to plumbing fish tanks. I am setting up a 110. It's a pretty simple set up. I have my power heads, MP 40, and my return pump. The way the tank is design is that it overflows on the left side glass panel into a rectangular glass panel. What do I need exactly for this?

I would try to help, but not sure exactly the setup that you are taking about with the side glass panel overflow...

Pictures would help. Typically, an overflow is plumbed using a Durso standpipe (there are other methods but Durso is the simplest), then a bulkhead is fitted at the drain hole inside the overflow. You can then run a drain line from the dry underside of your overflow to your sump.

A pair of channel lock pliers, hack saw, dope tape, pvc primer, pvc glue for starters ... Possible silicone, flashlight. Second set of hands when your under the tank holding a fitting the other guy is up top securing the other end. Call me if u need help ill stop by

Here is a picture of just the tank. On the left, you can see the overflow box. The box has 5 different holes cut 1 3/4 inch. I covered two with glass and silicone because I don't need 5. That seems like way over the top to me. So...

1.) Would two drain holes in the overflow box be fine? If so, do I need two bulkheads?

2.) What type of material do I need that's draining the water from the overflow box into the sump? Is it PVC or a type of flexible tubing?

3.) And what about the material going from the sump to the DT?

well for starters you are going to need bulkheads that fit the holes you have drilled. for the return part of the plumbing in the overflow, since you dont have a lot of height, you can run a T out of the bulkhead with a ell of the side of the T pointing down. on the top of the T put a cap and a small valve to adjust air to try and silence things down. for the return plumbing plumb it however you like, just get the water from the bulkheads to the tank.

hope that helped some.

Looks like you got a nice tank. The overflow has been drilled for a BeanAnimal style drain, with the 3 center holes for drains and the 2 outer holes for returns. In the DIY forum there is the whole BeanAnimal overflow thread which explains that whole deal better than i could.

But basically you need 3 bulkheads of the larger size and 2 of the smaller, then a bunch of fittings and pipe that goes into those bulkheads.

Edit: Ah you covered the holes =/. The BeanAnimal overflow is silent, but you need at least 4 of the holes for it to work properly (one is return).

Do u have a sump? There is way too many holes in that overfloxw box? I dont see any reason why u need so many ? I would plug all but 2 of them and put bulkheads in the 2 u have left for your drains. Have those plumbed to your sump. Either hard pipe it with pvc or use soft hose. Im sure your local store can guide u along from there. Good Luck

Well I can easily uncover the holes if necessary. It's nothing difficult. I'll check out that thread. Thanks!
