What hammers are more "rare"? And what kind is mine?

I really don't know anything about it other than it is a hammer. I seem to see most of them with green tips, not the other way around. Is one more desirable? Personally I love them both, just wondering :) What do people generally pay for whatever mine is? Like $5 a head?

(also if anyone happens to know what the red and also the pink zoas are that would save me a thread in zoa id :) )

I have the same color hammer as well, i think i paid about 10 bucks for the head, about the size of a golf ball.

I have the same hammer and a bright green one. The standard purple/green is around $5-10 per head and the brighter ones are pricier. I think I paid $20/head for the bright green one.

I have the same one and 5-10 per head is a reasonable price from a hobbyist; maybe a bit more if you buy it at the store. More expensive hammers tend to be wall hammers; presumably because they grow slower and are significantly less prone to being fragged.

I have the same hammer. They are fairly common and grow quickly so prices stay low. I would expect ~15-20 a head at an LFS in my area. I generally give frags away for free.

I think the red zoa may be a "kedd red"

Depending on the hobbyist or collector; "Rarer" colour morphs of hammer coral include variations of orange, yellow, gold, white. Some colonies/frags will have thicker "hammers"/tips at the ends, others will have thinner ones. Some will have different coloured stalks as opposed to the colour of the head/hammer. Some will even have differing coloured flesh/body. Geographical regions of where the corals are collected will also affect price and availability.

Enclosed are some pictures that I have collected over time as some examples of the varieties available.

I hope this helps with answers to your question.

Neat pics! I really love torch, hammers and frogspawn. I'd love a tank with all of those you posted! Someone invent me a pink one too :) Thank you for all your replies :)

And ThreeMoneyJ yes I think you are right, Kedds, thank you!

One of the hardest types to find is a true orange hammer, meaning real orange color, not gold or peach, etc. I have personally seen what is called a rainbow hammer that had three-four different colors in it. Bought one, but it did not survive.
