What ever happened to the serious Zoanthid related discussions we use to have here.

Not quite sure, but thats the reason I don't come to this forum as much as I used to... Seems they're mostly ID threads, or hey look at my zoo, isn't it pretty... I really don't mind looking at Eye candy, but some discussion would be nice as well...

What ever happened to your ID thread Mucho???

People become greedy and their ego's take over. They've just got to have their coral IDed, because, lets face it, if it doesn't have a name, its garbage and can't be in their tank. I agree with ct_vol, its nice to look at some eye candy every now and again, but some serious discussions about husbandry, growth, etc would be nice every now and again. People get caught up in the hype of things and while I'm guilty of the occasional "isn't this cool" thread, I try to limit myself on those.

There was/is a forum (I forget the name) that has one continual thread (something on the order of hundreds of pages) where people post their eye candy to. It didn't completely eliminate the "ID This" and "Look at this" threads but it helps. Maybe thats an idea for here?

I will try to get one goin from here! First off , Mucho great stuff in all your threads. Thanks for taking the time to share. It has helped me alot in fighting off those pita nudis. I picked up 2 sea grass wrasses which have been in the tank for about a week . I have been using your lugols dip which has worked great but wanted a predator to finish them off. The wrasses are really cool but weird fish. Cant figure out why my east coast lfs would,nt carry them. I had to order them from blue zoo. Less than 20 bucks each. When i added them to the tank they hung out on the surface of the tank. They are still spending most of their time their looking for food. Hope they will start to cruise the lower rockwork looking for nudis. They have no fear of anything. They will swim inside my hand when it is inside the tank. Last night i picked up a loose colony of zoos and sure enough one of them looked through it. He could'nt find anything. I will keep trying that and let you know if i get a positive result. Had a funny thing happen a few nights ago. I spot my 1 year old yorkie behind the tank and quickly realize he is playing with a carpet surfer. Thats right he grabs the seagrass and proceeds to fly around the house with him in his mouth! Manage to trade him a cookie for the wrasse. The fish was alive but a little dusty. Cleaned him up a bit and sure enough he ate some mysis 20 minutes later! Now thats a tough fish! I have since closed off the 3 inch hole he got through. I was wondering if yours took a while to get to the bottom half of the tank where the nudis live. A great addition to a tank either way. Thanks again i will keep in touch. Mike

ct_vol, it just faded away.

The SGW is a pesky little fish that can reach up to 6 to 8 inches in lenght. He has the craziest swimming patterns I have ever seen. I had a total of 5 in my tank at different times. I witnessed at least a dozen at my LFS. They will just hover at times and stalk ever inch of the reef darting in at everything that moves. Other times they can been seen just being blown slowly across the reef slope in the current, then in a split second they will begin to swim straight up to the water surface then back down to the substrate. This fish is a definite leaper, that is how I lost the one I spoke of in the thread up top. Believe it or not, this fish will even hide under the sand for great lenghts of time. I know, crazy, but I will never forget the day that I sat and watched him consume nudi after nudi. I couldn't say that they all will exhibit the nudi killing behavior, as some of the others I purchased later on would touch a nudi.

Wow, that fish must have 9 lives to survive a leap, a mauling, carpet fibers, then back in the tank, LOL.

Hang tough my friend.

Same stuff is happening with the lps forum, just not to the extent that the zoa forum has seen.

This naming of corals is getting a little out of hand, in my opinion.

I've never heard of sea grass wrasses, will have to look them up now.
