What I know now, I Wish I have...

I have zero regrets. I studied Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Pentax for over a year before I bought a camera. I joined a forum dedicated to each one and learned the in's and out's of every brand.

I studied the 24-70 and 24-105 lenses specifically (my hardest decision) for 6 months before finally taking the 24-70. The 100 macro, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, and others were simpler choices, but you can be sure I knew exactly what I was buying, and what I could have bought instead, before I pulled out a credit card.

Therefor I have no doubts, regrets, wishes, or anxiety. Just fun.

TS - you're lucky. When I got into this it was a hobby at the most. NY, near the city just didn't rock my asthetic senses (yes I have been to the real B&H store several times). As I got more into it, it changed. I also did a lot of research about what I was going to buy (Canon - because it had mirror lockup the Nikon didn't in the price range I was looking at).

Truth is I bought consumer lenses for a long time. I just couldn't fathem spending $1K+ on a lens. My first "L" lens was really for wildlife, I needed the reach - a 300 F4 IS lens. It was a big step for me. The difference in image quality was readily apparent and upgrading comensed after that.

Unfortuantely for me, I ultimately bought two or three of everything trying to save money in the begining only to spend large in the end for the good stuff (wanna buy a used 28-135 IS lens?).

I can't say I have regrets though. I just didn't know I would get this into it. Getting work published and selling stuff was never my intention. It just sort of happened as I delved more into a hobby I found very enjoyable.

I wish that I would just be happy with all the point and shoot Digital cameras that I have, but noooo...I have to go out and spend another grand for a newer and better camera. is there an end to this?
