What is a mesh mod?

I read a lot of people mesh modding their skimmer pumps. What is it and how and why do you do it?

i have never done this,but basically you take apart your skimmer pump and attach a mesh material to the impeller that moves the water.some people use scotch pads from the harware store.i makes the bubbles smaller for better skimming

Its simply taking "Mesh" and attaching it to the Impeller of the skimmer pump.

The reason is, all the little plastic strands in the mesh material break up the air into Incredible small bubbles. Which in turn creates more air surface.

Why don't skimmers come with mesh built in?
Simply over time the mesh falls off the impeller. For us "smart" consumers its well worth it. Meshing a skimmer can easily improve performance by double (Easily)

If you want to mesh your skimmer, search for "Enkamat 4". Also just for ease, buy it in a kit off ebay for 8 bucks shipped. It will come with zipp ties.

Don't you guys worry that adding the mesh / zip ties to the impeller might imbalance it enough to wear on the pump, or the impeller more quickly than the stock configuration?
