what is an ozonizer?

I recently decided to step up my reefkeeping skills to attemt a totally sps aquarium. I purchased the calcium reactor already. I was just wondering what exactly an ozonizer is and what it does to benefit the aquarium. Also, is it recommended? Since there are many people on here far more skilled than myself, i thought that this was the best place to ask the questions.

I have been using one for about 35 years in conjunction with a skimmer. Basically it adds ozone gas to the air that goes into your skimmer. Ozone is very reactive and oxidizes any organics it touches. It is not needed and is very controversial. I obviousely like it but not needed at all. It's just another tool.
