what is best to anchor sump return line in display tank?

hi,i want to make a sump with a 20 gallon tank to keep equipment and skimmer for my 75 gallon.

how would be best way to anchor/attach the return line in the display tank?

also,if i go with a prefabbed sump/trickle filter should i use bio ball filter or keep my rena xp3 canister?
