im not 100% sure...but i think a nano is 20 gallons or smaller but i hav a 26 and i considerate a nano.....i personal feel over 30 gallons isnt a nano anymore
my vote is 30gallons or less total volume running independantly.
ive read posts from some that have small tanks plumbed into larger systems. in my opinion that is not a nano, but a chambered ststem. of course its still a cool way to set up tanks.
