what is eating my lps corals

ive had a hippo tang that loved to munch on acans and have heard multiple others have the same problem.

Do you have Asterina stars? I know a lot has been said about these guys not being a problem, but I have first hand experienced that absolutely not being the case.

Mine went to town on all of my LPS after I finally got all my nitrates down to zero. I think they were lacking nutrients and went after any LPS they could find. I lost a bazooka joe colony (the edges were just covered in stars munching away) and several acans and most of my other LPS faced some quite severe damage before I quarantined them and started picking off the stars.

I have had 2 hippo tangs that both ate LPS corals (Candy canes, Acans etc) and Softies. Got rid of both of them.

I have a 90 gallon and about 20 fish.A variety of wrasses flasher, flame, sunrise, chaoti, leopard, and a few tangs yellow, blue hippo, kole, niquer goddess,Achilles, purple, chevron,a pair of clowns,a goby firefish,a green and psychedelic mandarin, and the only fish whose ever eaten my coral is my ebele eyed angel is the only one whose ever eaten my corals. He loves ne editions.Hell eat an entire acan in one night.4 or five heads in one sitting. My moneys on the angel

My tang is nipping at my hammer. ARRRGG!!

I know this thread is old ...but the internet has no time limit on information.

Another vote for keeping an eye on the blenny. As often as the angel and tang are out in the open, you likely would have seen them nip. The blenny on the other hand is a ninja and will munch a bite or two and hop back into its hole as if it did nothing wrong :). Took me a few days until I caught my flametail tearing a chunck out of my acan.

I had just finished mounting my very first frags about 2 hours ago. they sat on the sand for a week until I decided where to put them.

So I adjusted my Radion lights this morning to a Graph done by John at Ecotech and have been monitoring that and my new Green Grass coral that has been retracted. So I am looking at my hammer noticing that it is now 3 times larger since its mounting to its permanent location and tell my wife while I am looking at it my BB Tang comes in and nips a head off (it floated to the surface) and he swimms on. I have fed him twice today and he (she) also has mounted sea weed. IT IS A PIG. Constantly hungry. It was him (her) and I witnessed it, I am for sure thinking toilet or give away if I see it again.:)
