Sorry my camera is broken. But I found a picture on this web sight of my mystery algae. The web sight is www.wetwebmedia.com/redaglidfaq2.htm .
The picture is on the bottom of the page red algae id 2/25/04. It says What is it? Red algae ID 2/25/04
WWM Crew, I have this probable red algae growing in one of my tanks. Do you know what it is? First picture was taken today. the other picture in Sept. 03. Mitch <Hi Mitch. I am not sure of the ID of the first algae that sort of looks like a bunch of curlicues.
That is what I have in my tank. Maybe someone can id for me and tell me if I should keep or get rid of or whatever info they may have.
Buy the way this is a great sight.

WWM didnt have an idea and neither do I unfortunately. I'll check in some books but I dont think I've seen a photo of a red alga like that before. It does look like a fleshy red macro. This group does not typically become pest species in reef aquariums, and are often eaten by herbivores. Unless you find it distracting to the overall aquascape, or just dont like the look, you could keep it.

Samala the red macros texture is more like seaweed. I have a yellow tang and redsea desjardini tang. Neither will eat it. It is now about 6'x4' and growing. It is pretty but I am afraid of it going sexual.
