What is it?

For some time now I have been finding various size black balls in my tank. Most are 1/8" to 1/4" in diameter, but the largest is over 1/2".

What are they?

Hope these pictures help. Not easy to get the shots.

Agreed. Bubble Algae. Try emerald crabs or a foxface if you want to get rid of them. My foxface keeps them out of the display except for the couple that are too far into the rocks or too big for him to eat.

With this information I've been reading the web. Everything I am finding says it is green in color. Mine is very shiny and black.

Does it come in this color?

Mine were a deep dark green. I just pulled them by hand whenever I saw them. It was actually kind of fun. I finally ran out of them.

I had some bubble algae in the past that was a v-e-r-y dark green color. These pictures look similar.

Are these balls attached or loose? Are they solid or hollow? Do they appear quickly?
