what is my mantis doing??

Finally got one as a baby(3/4"). Started as brown, but has colored up beautifully. Found a home and walled it up with carefully placed stones so that (Isuppose) it can have a secure place. Takes out one stone so that it can come out to feed. When done, it replaces the stone. For the last 5 days, it has not removed the stone to expose itsself. I finally shook the house and dislodged some stones to see if perhaps it died. Still alive. In a couple minutes, it rebuilt the wall.QUESTION...why has it not come out the last few days? OR... is it only coming out at night?? I am sort of keeping a log on it's doings and find it the most interesting creature I have come across. The wall it has built is not haphazard, but a wall of carefully sized stones, apparently cemented together by some sort of secretion. Has anyone else had a mantis do this? Thanks.

It's most likely molting, leave it alone.

Shedding your entire skin is a traumatic endeavour without a gigantic creature peering in to see what's going on. It will come out when it is finished.

normal molting behavior. When it sheads its entire body is very soft and vunerable to any attack, without any way of defending itself. I think that is what happened to my N. wennera, hitchhiker crab may have goten him. If your mantis isn't out and about in another like 10 days I might check but it should be motoring around before that.
