What is on the base of this leather?

It's been progressively getting bigger.

And then you can see how it is today.

Looks like old growth, as if it was attached to something and then cut off and re-attached. The old part is just healing and the coral itself seems to be doing great.

I agree, looks ok. Just make sure it's getting a good amount of light and flow.

It's opening up again today. I guess just seeing that darker stuff at the base and the fact that it closed up for a few days got me all concerned.
