So what is proper salinity in a tank. On the back of the instant ocean salt contianer says it should be a 1.022 and natural sea water is 37ppt which is about 1.024. So can some one give me the accurate measurement I should go by? and the reason behind it.

I have read that it depends on what time of the year it is . What temp it is and what Ocean we are talking about. I keep mine at 1.025

I keep mine at 1,026, but there is no right number, stability is the key.
fish only kept at lower sg, such as 1.022 have less disease outbreaks as parasites and others have a hard time living in the lower sg. corals prefer a bit higher anywhere from 1.024-6 is fine with me. it is a bit more expensive, but minimally.

I run mine at 1.025 to 1.026.

Natural Ocean water is listed somewhere here at RC as being 1.02647 or 1.02674 or something like that, but it is in the mid 1.026's.

anywhere between 1.022 and 1.026. just pick 1 and keep it stable. i'm a 1.024 man myself.

I've keep mine at 1.024 but like everyone says stability is the key. Top off water everyday to a marker in your tank so that salinity stays stable. Small swings(like.001) are not a huge deal but anything more can lead inhabitants getting sick.
