What is the best QT practice?

Well after a velvet outbreak, I am QTing everything for everything. When I get new fish, I want to put them through every treatment I'd need to prevent any disease from entering the tank. My tank will start it's 8 week fallow period today, and I will treat my infected fish with cupramine for 4 weeks, then maybe prazipro for another couple weeks, but I don't know if I should treat anything else. I have new fish coming tomorrow into a different QT, which I will do the same. Should I prazipro first or copper? I am afraid that there will be something internal I can't see, which prazipro should take care off.

So what is the best methods of QTing fish to have the greatest chances of zero diseases in your tank? Just copper and prazipro or?

Whatever you use, just be careful with copper if you have tangs. Copper tends to damage tangs digistive tracks. I have had tangs that were treated with copper and eventually died with their stomach so big that it looked like the fish was going to popped.
good luck

I think cupramine is safe with that though. It is safe on eels, so should be ok for tangs. I have heard that before though. Hopefully someone else can chime in who has better sources.

I think if you treat fish with cupramine and prazipro that will take care of alot of things that could get into your tank. While their are a few diseases that those would not take care of you would be treating for ich, velvet.flukes and internal parasites all at once.I think that is a good qt treatment regiment.

You can dose cupramine and prazipro at the same time.I would start with the copper and then after 2 weeks you could add the prazipro.I suppose you could add them both at once but waiting the 2 weeks may allow the fish to not be quite so stressed from two meds all at once. The prazipro should be administered in two 5-7 day treatments with a water change between the treatments. If you need to do water changes before the 5-7 days just redose the prazipro for the amount of the water changed.

I dose Prazipo and Cupramine together. After 7 days change 50% water, 2nd dose of Prazipro and add Cupramine, after another 7 days another 50% water change and add back only Cupramine and treat for another 4 weeks. Then a 25-50% water change and add carbon to remove Cupramine. If the fish are eating vigoursly then add to main tanks. Otherwise they stay there until eating well. Always check Cupramine levels during treatment. If needed Maracyn II can be done anytime, but after treatment I do a 50% water change.

Sounds good, didn't know I could do both at the same time, it says not to on the bottle. I will stick to that QT procedure, thanks everyone.

There are many things that DON'T mix with Cupramine so beware, but I, and others, have used Prazipro and Maracyn II with Cupramine with no issues.
