What is the ideal tank temperature for your live rock?

Thanks. Anyone have their tank with TBS rock get up to 80-82 in summer and what happened to your rock, sponges, critters, etc? My tank usually hits 82 on about 10 days each summer. Thoughts? I don't want to chill. Thanks.

My one tank hit 82 for part of one day this summer and was 80+ another day. Usually it runs right at 78. Ironically, it was on a somewhat cooler day when the AC was not on as much. That tank is right by an AC vent. I think I'm going to have to close that vent entirely during heating season.

Everything came through just fine. I did take action when this occurred on both days, turning off lights, etc.

There are some critters that definitely prefer lower temps and quite a few things hate wide fast fluctuations.

Thanks for your thoughts. Anyone else? Anyone ever have a temp spike and die-off? What temp and what died? Thanks.

The Gulf goes from around 51 in the winter time, to 91 in the summer.....is about 84 right now....so the rock is used to all extremes....but a consistent temp under 80 is what you are after....better for the livestock also....less chance of disease...

a good way to drop it a couple of degrees, is just to place a box fan blowing on the tank....works well....

Thanks for that additional info. That is helpful. That is quite a temperature swing!

Yup

the gulf is still 85 today, we had our first cold front come through yesterday....I have seen years that on the first of October you had to wear a full wet suit.....but this year has been kind....can still dive in jeans...but feels cold when you get out of the water!
