does anyone know where and any details about this free source?

this would be closer for me than UCSB.

Do you mean Corona del Mar? I believe it's te Kerthmouth Insititute. Something like that. I was there yeserday but they were closed.

HB for free water... i have a hard time swimming in that myself. every time i read about beach wate testing for humans and this beach always fails. too funny

so not the same as UCSB? the UCSB water is filtered to 20 microns. not here? just pumped out of the ocean near shore?

does anyone know any more?

The place is in Corona Del Mar at 101 Dahlia St. There is a thread here with directions, but nothing was said about if you had to go when they were open. Apparently the water spigot is near the carport. The water there is used for scientific experiments and as sure is heavily filtered and very pure just like at Scripts or UCSB. I have not been yet but plan to soon.

Use Yahoo maps and follow the directions to this place. You will need them because it is very tricky to get to this location.

The water is in the carport on the left. Look for a stenciled sign on a gray door that reads something like, " Turn off saltwater with Red Valve" You will see the garden hose hanging on one of those metal hose holders.

One big thing I found about this place is there water pressure is very low. I was there for 35 minutes and only had 70 gallons. So be prepared to spend some time there is you have to get a lot of water.

I was there when they were closed so I am not sure if they kick up some water pumps during the day or not. That would help because a siphon through a garden hose is faster than this labs water pressure. At least they are generous and offer water for free. I am just giving you fellow reefers a heads up so you don't waste your day waiting for your containers to fill.

I heard, but never could confirm, that the institute at the end of Dana Point Harbour also has filtered water. I heard this twice, but could never figure out if true or not.

Anyone know??

I didn't pursuit it becuase it looked closed. Did you just park in the carport. there were all these no parking signs and a couple of cops, so I just drove by.

Kinda intimidating driving down that ramp with all the No public parking signs. I have to go back to shoot more sittings on Friday, I'll check it out again.

tony,

got a ton (literally) from there already and have had no ill effects on my tank.

with catalina...i got this funky gooey diatom bloom...and i paid money for catalina water too!

i posted the parameters and while ca is a little low...alk is spot on for me as i am running a full zeo system right now! nothing a little turbo calcium and a nudge from my ca reactor cant cope with.

it is a weird location so it will probably deter a lot of people from going there. i am usually in the area so it is no big deal for me...no, i dont have a pick up truck for large water deliveries guys...sorry! ;)

Bergzy, how about some details on where to get the water in Dana Point? I thounght the numbers you posted were for water frem Corona Del Mar.

oops, sorry steve...

i meant the water from corona del mar...

the place is a sea urching research facility...which means that their water is pretty decent! :)
