i've got 2 unidentified problems growing in my tank. any help identifying one or both would be appreciated. I think the first pic is a flat worm infestation. also, if you can ID the problem (s), I would love some insight on treatment. thanks.
Yes There flatworms. In my opinion siphoning them out works best. Get a small section of rigid airline and a long section of airline tubing. Get the siphon going and pick off the flatworms.
Second picture was valonia or bubble algae. The red algae in the picture can also be target siphoned like picking cotton candy.
Got luck. Do a little each day and you will see results in no time.
Most nuisance algaes are from excessive nutrients. I have had this in my tank before when everything was great except for the fluffy red algae. Honestly, I don't know. I pruned the heck out of it and it finally died off. New live rock always developed more algae for me. It likes the light. Be careful when pruning it that the filaments don't float area it will spread. It changes from red to lighter red than orangish yellow as it dies off. It pruned the easiest with the siphon in the yellowish phase.
Is your tank on the newer or older side? Flatworms tend to be in newer tanks 8 months or so old.
my tank has been up for about 10 months now and everything else is doing fine, it's just that stupid algae that seems to be sucking the life out of everything else.
i'm thinking of getting a six line wrasse in addition to siphoning out the flat worms.
