What is this...good or bad plant

I have a lot of this growing on a nice pc of live rock, it comes from a dark woody looking base. The snails are doing a good job of keeping it pruned, but I would like to know what it is. Forgive the picture quality...only a few stems are left thanks to the snails.

They sprout from the brown looking knobs in this picture...

Howdy sirreal63,

Try looking up Sargassum. It's a nontoxic brown algae. If it reproduces sexually, the parental plant doesn't "self destruct" like some species of Caulerpa and other caulerpalean green algae. I'm a big fan and I would say overall it's a good algae to have in the tank.
