What is this on my candy cane?

Over the past few days I've noticed this grow from my candy cane. At first is was just the one on top and now there is a bottom one growing.

If I touch them they don't retract, semi squishy and are flexible. They are also white.

What the heck is it!

I think it's a type of sponge or something like that...
