ok... so here we go...
my sebae was bought bright pink, i think it was dyed. I've been trying to nurse it back to health. ive managed to recover it a lot. It now stings and eats food. However, today this pink stuff is coming out. what is it? is it dye? could it be zooanthellae?

i think its just expelling waste how often do you feed it? has it ever done this before? how long have you had it?

What lighting is it under? Is the mouth still gaping like that? Being dyed is not unheard of but not very common either. What R U feeding it, how often? Is it in an area of good flow? If you were to squirt some water at the anemone, does it react? Does the mouth close up? A gaping mouth is the first sign of an anemone that is stressed, unhappy and maybe looking to die. What are your water parameters? Anemones are very sensitive to ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, etc. They need top notch water quality. How long have you had it? How long has your tank been up and running? Less than a year and it's very hard to keep anemones alive. Yes, the tank is cycled but in the first year of being set up there a changes in the tank chemistry that can affect some reef animals. Stability comes after the first year...also by then you are used to good water husbandry...water changes, etc. that also add to the long term keeping of anemones. I have had my current RBTA for over 5 years...and it has been the mother of many. Good luck

thanks... so i feel better, not so scared anymore.

Ladipyg: The anemone is under 7 watts/gal pc lighting, and the mouth DOESNT gape. i feed it mysis, silverside, shrimp, cuttlefish every 2-3 days. It's under great flow. If you touch it it stings, and it reacts to water flow. The anemone has in fact RECOVERED since when i first purchased it, so i don't think you need to worry about a lack of proper research or care on my part. In fact i never buy anything without being overly meticulous about the problems and changes that can be caused.
