What is this stuff?

I found this stuff all over the oive rock in the rear of the tank as well as the powerheads...Anyone know what this is? More importantly, how can I rid the tank of this stuff?

looks like a mix of poop ,diatoms, and film algae mixed together.
and to get rid of it you may have to get some airline tubing and syphon it out.

Is that a normal occurance? I would think that this stuff would get filtered out through the overflow/sump/skimmer. Anyone else have this buildup of crud problem?

i think the technical term is gunk a good clean up crew should take care of that gunk. may want to pick up a few extra snails.

You need more flow in those areas, and then the skimmer can take it out. Once it has settled, it has settled.

I've decided to eliminate some of the Maxijet 1200's and get the Tunze Wavebox to get a nice wash through the tank...This should hopefully reduce the 'gunk' buildup.. Just have to find a place that stocks them.
