What Is This Thing??

This thing on my zoas looks like a mouth! It is so weird because it only comes out when the zoas come out and sometimes it is covered up by zoas and other times its big like in the pictures.

I thought it was just a deformed zoa but after posting in a local club forum I've heard it might be another species altogether? Anyone have any ideas what this is and ever see it before? Seems that its stumped some very knowledgeable & experienced reefers who I look up to!

Looks like a weird anemone to me. I would remove it.
I think it is stinging your zoas too (see 3rd picture)!!
Perhaps you can try to scrape it off and keep it in another rock, if you really want to have it.
Do a search and find out it it could become a pest.
Last thing you want is to have millions of those all over your system!!!

Grandis.

Does look like an anemone, but nothing I have seen before! I think it's too cool to get rid of. If it was mine, I would let it be and see what it does. It's new to me?

Yeah someone mentioned a Dendro Coral (NPS) which is very possible because it does close up.

Or a Rock Anemone....Anemones don't close up ever though - right?

It kind of looks like a bubble coral recovering from a dead skeleton. Is the whole thing soft or is there a skeleton to which the tentacles are attached?

Cody - thanks for your reaponse but I think i may have found out what it is. A Speckled Cup Coral. It looks incredibly similar although the difference I noticed is the tentacle/polyp things...that's the only part that makes me wonder if that's the right species or not.

Well it would certainly be cool if it were one. But still not quite sure. Still looks like the speckled cup coral. And a flower rock anemone. Guess time will tell!

I have something that came with some zooanthids that looks exactly like the one you posted. It's been growing and it appears to be a plate coral.

Yeah it looks similar to a baby majano but mine has a straight slit for a mouth not a round one. Also mine is not all tentacles. Mine only has feeder tentacles which come out occasionally. Thanks for your input though!

I really thouhht it was a Fungia but now it has been folding itself in half and deflating teeny tiny. You can see it in the center of the picture in the middle of two of the zoas. You can see where the two sides of ridges meet one another...Do you all see it? Does this mean its not a plate?

Also yes mine has green tentacles but havent noticed any white ones. How long have you had yours?
