Ok guys and gals... Been Reefing for about 5 months so a newbie to a lot of things.. Luckily I have a great friend that helps me a lot but want to see if anyone here can tell me what this is in my tank. It's like a black slug/snail with two antennas. Check the pic please.

Also have a big snail with 4 bubbles on its shell. My pal says its bubble algae but not sure.. Are they babies?

Thanks for all ur help and feedback!!

Get the bubbles out don't pop them in the tank those things took over my tank many years ago

Id just remove the snail

Looks like a black stomatella to me. http://www.melevsreef.com/node/395

As for the bubble algae, I like to siphon it out using some thick tubing. Be very careful not to rupture any of the bubbles or you will have an even worse problem. Is the bubble algae on a snail? is that snail new? I would remove it as quickly as possible. Take the whole snail out, manually remove the bubbles, then rinse in saltwater down the drain and put the snail back.

i disagree with the elephant sea slug
it looks like a dark colored stomatella snail i had some of the black ones just like that.

I would put money on it being an elephant sea slug. A better pic would confirm for sure, but the lack of a visable half shell on its back and the antenna match that of the elephant slugs I have had. Excellent little critters, first one survived just over seven years. Came in as a hitchhiker on my live rock. Passed away about 6 months ago and I bought a replacement a month or two later.

The snail actually came as a hitcher on a coral I purchased at my local LFS.. I dont need the snail but would rather save it, pop them bubbles in a QT i have then rinse out the snail and put him back... As for the slug/snail I'l try to get a better picture if I can. Thanks for everyone's responses.

OK so I just cleaned off the snail... Got rid of the 4 bubbles on it's shell, they actually just came right off without popping them off in a small tank I have.. Phew... Hopefully they don't come back! Thanks for everyone's input!!!

Good to hear that. That bubble algae can be a real pain iv had them grow under corals and push them off the rocks they can get quite large
