I'm 11 months in to my first reef tank and up until a month ago things were going ok apart from Cyano. Over the last few weeks my Zoanthids have stop opening as much and one of them has melted away to almost nothing.
LFS said to try dosing Vitamin C which I've started. They threw in a red Gorgonian (with the Vit C) for me to put in the tank and see if this struggled.
It was placed next to a torch coral for a day, but in the evening I noticed a white covering on the branch and polyps where the torch had been touching it. All other polyps opened fully so I moved it away to its own spot, the white stuff continued to grow down the one branch and stayed on the polyps which didn't open. This morning I tried to remove the white stuff and found it simply brushed off really easily.
Does anyone know what this is? FYI in the picture all the polyps are close, they weren't 30 mins before the pic was taken so not sure what happened.
Water info:
Weekly 10% water changes, dosing Vitamin C, Ca, Mg, Kh,
Ammonia, No2 - 0
pH - 8.0
No3 - 5
Ca - 490 (usually at 400 - 440 over dosed slightly)
MG - 1320
Kh - 9.6
Po4 - 0.1
Temp - 75 degrees (was at 85 for a while in the summer, battled to keep it down)
Sal - 1.026 - 1.027 (again slightly higher than I would like
Sorry for the essay, I'm finding now I'm 11 months in its becoming much more challenging to keep the corals happy!
