I don't know what this is mold, sponge? I don't think it's a fungus. Nothing has died in my tank. I have clean water. I don't know how long it's been there just found it today whilst cleaning the tank. Probably going to remove it in a seperate quarantine area with a brush. Next week when I do a water change.

Hey shifty51008 I see it says your a Clownfish breeder how do you tell the sex of clown fish?

Size, when you get a pair the female is the biggest one and males are smaller, i think there is a couple clowns but are not common where the males are bigger. So when you buy a pair try to get the 2 smallest ones and let them pair up then the dominate clown will turn female.

Every clown starts as a juvi or sexless, then when in a group that already has a male and female they will stay sexless, if the female dies then the male will turn female and the dominate juvi will turn male and so fourth.

Keep in mind that in our tanks you only want to keep 2 clowns per tank, most of the time when you get more than 2 and 2 of them pair off they will attack and kill the others leaving you with 2 in the end.

Thanks for the info. Can you have them breed still of you buy one clown fish at a time? Or do they tend to get territorial once acclimated to the tank.

They will still breed if you buy them seperatly. The clown that you have 1st will become a female so you will want to buy one that is smaller than the one you have so you dont end up with 2 females, 2 females will fight as once they turn female they cant turn back to males.

However maroon clowns are alot harder to pair. Most clowns if you get the same species will pair up fairly easy if you follow those rules but maroons can be very picky about their mates, i went though 4 males before finding one my female would accept.

If your intrested in breeding clowns i would suggest getting the book "clownfishes" by joyce wilkerson. Lots of good info on clowns and anemones.
