it looks like a cap but it is thick and slower growing? It is about 7 to 8" long by 5 or so inches wide.

Looks like it could be a Fire Montipora (Montipora nodosa). I think zeovit has one on their website that looks the most similar to yours. I would post the link, but it is to their forums, which I think is a no no on RC. I will shoot you a PM.

I think you are right. When I said slower growing, thats not exactly true, I think it gets thicker every day.
