Howdy, Folks!

I'm new to saltwater aquariums, so I'd like help identifying something we caught in the brackish, tidal water of Lake Worth, Fla.

Last week I went with my kid's bio class and in the trapped-water of a sandbar I caught this thingie that looks sorta like a snail without a shell who's mother was really a stingray, whose dad was a slug, whose cousins were squids and cuttlefish, and whose grandma was a rabbit! It's about 8 in long, mottled brownish, has a face like a rabbit, bottom like a garden slug, and flies thru the water like a ray by undulating the edges of his wings. My local pet store said it might be a 'sea hare' but my search on the net of sea hares shows up algae.... this guy has a squarish snout with short appendages on it, longer ones on the top of the head and black, beadie eyes, so it really does look like a rabbit's head, but it sure ain't no algae!!

I have a bmp composite of three shots I took in my new tank which I'd like to attach for visual help, but so far I haven't found where to make the attachment in this forum.

Any idears????

Sounds like you have a T. crispata, a type of sea slug. However, it's impossible to tell without a pic. (If you have captured this creature, it is important that you identify it as soon as possible and learn its care requirements so that it does not suffer or die on you.)

To post a pic, you'll need to post it on the internet, and then you can make a reply to this thread containing a link to the pic. Also, you can post it directly in your message by using UBB or vB code.

To post your pic on the internet, try Photopoint, or request info in "The Lounge" for a pic-hosting site. If you cannot find help in this way, e-mail me the pic (my e-mail is available as a link above or in my sig) and I will post it for you. If you decide to e-mail me the pi, please make the file as small as you can, or my e-mail program might not accept it.

Thanks for the response... Dunno where I got the algae-thing from... perhaps I searched for 'sea hair' rather than 'sea hare'. I repeated the search today and got the proper responses on the web, and went thru most of the sites concerned. There was one good photo of a head which matches my critter, but there is a great lack of a real good photo that shows them in all their glory, wings spread wide, showing the creatures full beauty.

Fortunately I have the chance to remedy all that, but I've got some work to do to find out how to get the pics available to those who would appreciate them.

There is a web board called 'Delphi' which uses software that permits attaching photos to a post in simple way just like attaching them to an email. Nice feature.
