what is this...

I tried rubbing it off and it does come off i donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think a power head will get it off.

It does not feel slimy.

Also it is on my glass but does come off with the magnet cleaner

Looks like the run of the mill new tank diatom outbreak. Time to add your cleanup crew. Turbos should eat it off pretty quick.

I'd agree with diatoms if it's a new tank. Clean up crew and blow it off the rocks with a turkey baster. You may also set your skimmer to take out a wet skimmate. That seems to help imo.

it's a normal part of cycling a tank.

looks normal but don't worry it will get worse before it gets better. probably only the first stage. I wouldn't worry until 3-4 months. also agree with skimming alittle more wet can help sometimes. cycling without lights is always a good idea.
good luck,
robert

Get some Nassarius Vibex snails for the sand sifting. They will eat the diatoms in between tank feedings and then clean up leftovers when you feed. Then the leftovers wont be feeding the diatoms. Get some Turbos for cleanig the rocks. They will also help spead your coraline. Limpets are fantastic for cleaning the tank walls and leaving the glass spotless. Also Emerald crabs will pick at rocks for diatoms and eat feeding time leftovers. Throw in a few Algea Hermits for Hair Algae control and your crew is set.
