What is this?

Can someone tell me what is this eminating from the back and side of this brain coral...... Some sort of branch algae... I've been watching it for awhile and it looks harmless but wondering if I should lop it off....It is nowhere else in my tank but on this coral. Doesn't look as tho it's attached to the coral but rather growing right out from the base.

I think it is a form of sponge.

It's a macro algae. From the general form, I'd say it belongs to the same family as gracilaria (aka tang heaven). I'd leave it to grow

Nope, not gracilaria, but a type of Scinaia. Tangs would devour it.
