What is this?

I woke up this morning to find this thing beside my clam. The clam has been in the tank about 4 months and I have never seen this thing. I am not sure if it is something coming from the clam or something else.

Wow, I cant say I have ever seen that Dave. Not unless it is part of its foot and its looking to move. I am no clam expert by any means. If that was part of a skimmer I might be able to help you.

looks like byssal thread can't really tell for sure if the foot is there or not ( blurry ), if it is it's quite swollen.

is it attached to the clam?

have you recently moved the clam?

what size is the clam?

larger clams can drop their foot if they no longer need it but if it was removed by force the clam usually doesn't survive.

It appears it might be slightly attached to the bottom of the clam...but barely.

The clam is attached to a piece of LR rubble. I moved the entire piece of rubble about four weeks ago (with the clam on it).

The clam is probably about 6 inches long (Crocea).
