What is your favorite cap?

Tyree Flowerpetal

Yup...love this one also

Also not a Cap.

not trying to split hairs but many of the corals listed so far aren't true montipora capricornis, although all of them, including the seasons greetings, exhibit cap like or plating growth forms.

With that being said I prefer the look of a happy seasons greetings for a coral of this type, the contrast is amazing.

I'm pretty sure there's a green with red polyp monti that encrusts as well as one that plates. Call them what you wish as they look the same when they are 1" frags. Sometimes I wonder why there's 3+ names for the same coral; then I remember this is currently a collector hobby.

wow I'm surprised noone has said the ORA Supernatural cap. I have one at the store I work at and its Freaking awesome

ya that one is cool....definitely not a cap either. It encrusts, branches and plates....very interesting growth form. The polyps on it are almost exactly the same as my undata (crazy florescent under actinics).....and if I had to choose one to go it would be the super natural.

Seen bottom middle is my Chocolate Cap. I think it might be similar to the ORA Supernatural cap. One of my favorites. Contrast on this piece is awesome.

Ive noticed its growth pattern as well and do not think it is a cap, however ORA lists it as such so thats the only reason I said it :)

but yes, the grapes are also nice. I had a yellow with purple polyp cap in my tank but it died :( ive heard their super hard to take care of

here's my Red and also Grape, with a smaller green w/ purple rim lower left

I never realized all the different monti's, 'till reading this thread. Makes me want to go out and get some more !

With respect to the Leng Sy cap; I think the legacy of that form of cap, is just that a name. I've had this piece for the past five years and it hardly resembles the "leng sy" of ten years ago. I think flow has a lot to do with it though.

I've kept the same leng sy in my tank or the tanks of friends for over 5 years and it hardly resembles the original. I'm 90% sure it's the original peice. However polyps have morphed to green and it has lightened significantly. Strange what happens to some coral over time.

I bought mine from atlantis, on site, so I saw the mother colony. Its still a good looking cap, but I'm not sure you could tell the difference between it and a $5 frag.

My personal fav is Tyree Limited Monti Aquitiberculata i got from Atl (green with bright orange poly). I have a 12x12in Sky baby blue tyree LE 5 years old it is pretty nice. ( i use it as my monti frag rack) i have a nice sunburst that is growing out and every other cap mentioned on this thread.:) my purple green poly just died from nem:( my grape fel after getting to heavy in sand bed but the broken fuse is now 6 inch long ")
