what is your halide height? how close are your sps to the water line?

im about to build a custom hood for my halide fixture, and would like to get a read on what you have experienced regarding halide height.

how close can your sps be to the bulb without burning up?

I keep my halides ~ 8" off the water. Sps are anywhere from growing out of the water to 12 - 14" down.
Using 2 250 10K SE Ushios on magnetic ballasts with VHO atinics.

6-7" here and I have sps from the bottom all the way to about 2 inches from the water line. I'm using 250 watt 10K XM and 320 watt VHO

not to steal the thread but do you make sure to keep certain species down towards the bottom that need less light?

mine are about 8" i believe havent measured though.

I've moved them all around. I haven't found many sps that prefer low light. At least all mine love the light. Now there is one where I couldn't get it to color up so I had to move it up within 3 inches and it is doing much better.
