what kind is most rare?

Im waiting for Embryo's clowns to mate..There are gonna be some nice patterns coming out of that pair....A. Embryonensis..

I guess one of the rarest clowns i ever saw a picture of (saw the picture once, couldnt find it again)..was of Premas x Percula (or ocellaris, not too sure)..It was AMAZING!..so thats rare for ya.

My thiellei. Where else have you seen one??

How about jhardman's avatar :)

Back to the original thread... I really think you need to look though some clown books and find something you think is attractive and then worry whether or not you'll be able to find one. Some of the "rare" clownfish are not very pretty. Other "rare" clowns are not really rare, they are just not worth collecting on a large scale because the general population won't buy them.

Be honest you guys, if an A. omanensis somehow found its way into a LFS with some allardis or something, and there was a price tag of $70 on it, and you didn't know it was an Oman's, would you buy it? Do you know how long it would sit in that LFS?

18 month's ago a LFS around me had 4 Latzs for ~$70 a piece. They sat there for at least a month until Richdragon found them there, and Latz are actually nice looking.

Well, i guess we need to separate people into 2 categories:

1-clownfish lovers and connoisseurs
2- regular people who think "nemo" is cute.

Clownfish lovers and connoisseurs will pay big dollar for rare (rare= clownfish not often offered in the fish trade) and unusual clownfish..I know i would.. along with people like embryo and JHardman among others.

And regular people "who think nemo is cute" only go for percs and ocellaris. If you put an Omanensis next to an ocellaris and make them choose, they will pick the occy in a heartbeat..so now that we have split clownfish lovers from nemo lovers...which one are ya?..hehehe

I'm not sure as I've never seen one except for the few pictures on the 'net. I really like the lyre tail that I've seen though the brownish color might not be immediately appealing. But then again I like the washed out (in clownfish terms) colors of most skunks so....

I think that if I saw omanensis labeled as a "clownfish" and I didn't recognize him, I'd still buy it at $70 just because it was a clown I hadn't seen before and I love clownfish.

If I had a big FO predator tank and saw him I doubt I'd think to myself. "Wow! I want to set up a tank just so I can have one of those."

honestly i dont think they are that attractive, but then I have never seen one in person. it would be cool to have one purely for the shock value and jealousy I could envoke from fellow hobbiests when I brag about the sole captive oman clown. It's like the holy grail or that really hot chic in high school. it's unattainable and that is why we want it so much.

i know this may not belong here but does anyone knows where i can get some small true sebae...i have been looking but no luck yet...thanks guys...

His is the only other pic I've seen of one except for the original pics by Mike Thielle.:D

I am one of those who think "onyx" & "picasso" nemo is the cutest of all clownfish. I'd pick those anyday for my reef tank. But if I ever have the room to set up another tank it would definatly be for something rare like a cap, black foot, oman (I wish) or Mcc.

Well, im a sucker for onyx and picasso's too...but i mean, only a few people would see a "rare" clown and buy it..we are the low 0.1% that would..:D

Uhh hello Gasters???
I am partial to my nigripes :)
Omanesis are only popular cause we cant have it. If they were mainstream I dont think people would be bending over for them.

Of course as others have said buying a fish cause of rarity is well stupid. Find a fish you want to look at everyday and buy that. Not one that you can show boat and brag about because as they say or atleast I do. NOBODY LIKES A BRAGGART, it makes you look like an annoying arse.

There you go!
Gasters are a fish that I would want just because I love the combination of black with the orange/yellow bellies. For those who want rare, they have that too. Gasters are one of the one or two clowns that are actually available to some degree, that I have never seen in person.

I love my nigripes too, but they are one of the clowns that fall into the catagory of not really being rare, there just isn't a big demand for them, except from us connoisseurs. ;)

hmmm more like 0.001%

Exactly, like when my LFS says I can get Chrysopterus but the difficulty in getting them to handle the shipping along with being healthy. The overall cost of a Chrysopterus goes up to $100 a pair or more. The LFS owner says I have customers mad because they think I'm selling Clarki pairs for $100

When in fact if I or one of you see them and realize what they are we FREAK out and want to have them. Therefore he has such a low demand for Chrysopterus that he only rarely orders them.

These are no Clarki's, sorry just proud of my pair

My LFS can get chrysopterus on a regular basis and sell them for $40 a piece, but I have yet to see one of them make it past 3 days. I told him if he can keep them alive for 2 weeks I would give him 80 a fish, it just hasnt happened yet :(
