I bought some anthias off of live aquaria, and I dont beleive they are what I ordered. Would you experts mind taking a look and see what you think it is?

Thanks in advance

I ordered carberryi anthias from live aquaria and that is what they are supposed to be, but I was thinking it was maybe ignitus judging by other photos on the Internet.

IMO, they are ignitus for sure.

The two colors, yellow and red, on their dorsal fin is a good marker.

dispars have more yellow and pink in body and tail and a solid red dorsal fin.

i think carberryi have more visible scale pattern on the body like the resplendents and lyretails. Ignitus and dispar seem to have a smoother surface.

SDguy is a good anthias person to ask.

Ignitus would have a blue ring around the eye. I keep ignitus and dispar, and I'd definitely say it's a dispar rather than ignitus. I have no personal experience with carberryi though, so it very well could be carberryi.

Edit: looks like "jcw" and I posted at the same time, have you seen an ignitus without the blue around the eyes? I haven't

I'm not an expert. don't ask me. :)

it's just your dispars on the anthias thread look different to me than my ignitus and this fish.

I was told by SDguy that two of these were ignitus based on the two colors in the dorsal fin.

Likewise, I'm far from an expert haha

You're right, your fishes definitely don't look like my dispars, maybe some ignitus don't have the blue eye ring.

Hopefully someone with definitive answers will reply soon

Here's my female dispar

Carberryi get that same yellow/red combo on the dorsal fin. They look like carberryi to me. Easiest way to tell, when they raise their dorsal fin. Are there elongated first spines?

Ill keep an eye out for the elongated first spines. I watched the QT for about 20 minutes and never saw them put anything up. They would spread out the back part of their dorsal(?) fins, but I never saw any elongated spine towards the top of their head. The largest one looks like he has a larger spine towards the front of his head that is laid over, but he new flipped it up.

Based on having kept them (hell, they're my avatar <---), my money would be on Coral Sea Pseudanthias dispar females. Coral Sea ones are generally more orange with the lateral yellow eyestripe, as these ones appear to be. Easy way to know will be in a few weeks you'll probably see one turn pink and yellow... that'll tell you ;)

i have 4 carberryi from LA, and the first two pics doesnt look like it. the 3rd looks somewhat close to what i have.

i'm not quite as observative to fine details when it comes to anthias as some of the guys here though.

also, i have them in hypo for 4 weeks now. 1 of them has really lost its color becoming much whiter. not sure if thats the result of hypo, diet, or what. i know anthias usually dont carry ich, but i'm not anal.
