What kind of clam is this. I have it on the rocks about halfway up my tank under T5s. It looks healthy. Just wanted another opinion.

i agree, crocea.

how long have you had him??

how long has he been there??

have you changed your bulbs recently??

can you tell me a bit more about your lighting set up?? ( bulbs / kelvin / ballast / reflectors / etc.... )

i see the clam has lost the zooxanthellae on the flat part of the mantle around his siphons, this can be a problem.

Clam zooxanthellae

Clam zooxanthellae

What do you mean, lost his xooxanthellae around the flat part of his mantle? All I have for lighting is T5 x 4 24 watt. Did change the bulbs recently.

if you look at the pics, you will see the mantle is white on the flat part between the syphons ( holes ). the zooxanthellae algae that lives in the clams mantle has be expelled from that area, leaving it white. bleaching in this area is usually caused by light shock and can occur after changing older bulbs to stronger newer ones. to avoid this, you can slowly acclimate the clam to the new light by using screens or shortening the photoperiod.

it should get better ( quicker with acclimation ) but if not or it appears to be getting worse, please post another couple of pics as there are other reasons for this to occur.

It seems since I put the new lights in, the clam stays closed more during the day but when I look at it during the night, it is open. Is this because of the lights? I'll take another picture when I get home from work and post it?

yes, it is possible. please post a newer pic when you get home and list your fish / inverts as well as water parameters.
