What kind of dremel for custom acrylic / glass cutting?

I found a 25000rpm dremel tool for 30 dollars, and I didn't think that was a bad deal and was in my budget. I'm not sure if it's fast enough or too fast to do what I'm trying to do. What's the ideal RPM speed? or can you adjust the dremels?

Any recommendations if you we're cutting acrylic or glass?

I ordered my hole saws, but I'm looking to make some acrylic splash guards and things like that.

most of the better Dremel models have adjustable speed. Mine goes from something like 3500 rpm to 35000 rpm.

If you are thinking of a dremel type tool for cutting glass and acrylic I would look at a RotoZip. The spiral cutting bit will cut acrylic very well and the tile cutting bit will cut glass like it were plastic.

A RotoZip will cost you $65 without all the accessories and carrying case at Home Depot, it will probably come with some spiral cutting bits and the tile cutting bit is like $8.

Dremel is very versitile, they have about 2.3 zillion different bits for them but IMO they are not built for the lateral type of pressure you are likely to put on them when cutting acrylic or glass. You will burn out the bearings pretty fast and you will be buying a new one. The speed adjustable ones are pretty expencive too.

Any cheap 20,000+ rpm dremel tool and the #562 tile cutting bit will chew right through glass. Your on your own with acrylic
