what kind of lighting are you using?

Hi all thought this is the best place to post this thread...

so I am setting up a 40br not sure if I am gonna to SH or not. prob not b/c of the limited hight of the 40br. any one successfully done it?

anyway I am very interested in growing gorgonians and some Marcos just like alot of Sh tanks i have seen. any info on par/pur requirements for optimal growth and heath would be groovy!

so what lighting are you folks finding to work best? I am leaning toward LED b/c it cheaper to run long term and the controllability. but one to suggestions.

I have a 30g XH and I am using a 4 bulb 24" Coralife T5 fixture. It is fine for gorgs, and macros, both of which I have had. I chose it because I am old school, (or maybe I am just old LOL)and i don't know much about LEDs. I have a similar fixture on my reef tank and have been pleased with it.

yeah a lot of ppl really like T5. what nice about the LEDs are the fact i can ramp them up and down to get that just right zone for gorgs.

I am running a Photon LED fixture from ReefBreeders. I like it because you can set a light schedule for every hour (or 30 minutes if you'd like) to ramp the intensity up and down throughout the day.

yeah I think LEDs are the way to do for me. I have a nice DIY setup I made for my 75 when i had it up and running. really like the shimmer and controllability.

does anyone have any idea what is optimal par/pur for gorgonians? not that i have a light meter but would get an idea of what % to start off at.
