What kind of reef salt do you use?

I currently use Reef Crystals.
I used Instant Ocean for a few years to success as well.

When I've tested the levels, Ca, Alk, and Magnesium test good - and others I know have had luck with it.

Generally I order a couple buckets when I see some online vendor [RC sponsors most recently] has a `no-weight-fee' special. When LFS have sales on it, I'll often get a couple as well.

Recently have been getting buckets now + then from people who drive by the Fosters+Smith warehouse [which is up where a lot of folks have cabins].

Wherever's cheapest, really :)

FWIW, I use IO. Its a good salt, takes a bit of cal/alk to get it up to SPS levels, but other than it does good. I buy it from whoever has it on sale (Petsmart, LFS, online, etc)

A search on this will bring up lots of results:

Little bit of good reading for you to make an educated decision.

Is it ok to add the salt water to your tank soon after it is mixed or is it better to let it set? what kind of ph reading do you get after you mix your salt water, red sea clams that there's is 8.4 after mixed. what kind of reading do you get with the salt that you use? Thanks

Reef Crystals -- For me, this salt has been the most consistant for ca, alk, Iodide, Mg and pH

Used:

Tropic Marin -- Too Expensive
Oceanic -- Low Alk and low ph
LFS Homebrew -- Totally off -- What was I thinking!?

I've used Red Sea exclusively in my tank. I would have sworn the pH for that is 8.3 when mixed. I'll look when I get home.

I liked it but it's too darn expensive! Try Reef Crystals... See what ya think. If you don't like it, switch to Tropic Marin :D

How do you add salt to your tank?
