What kind of shelves would you build?

As part of my fish room re-do project I need to build all new shelves/worktables.
They will run the perimeter of the fish room and will hold a sump, a frag tank, a quarantine tank, misc items and double as a work space for testing, fragging, etc.
Ideally, what kind of construction and materials would you use? The first and obvious choice is the standard 2x4 construction.
Looking for some ideas, maybe some stuff I haven't already thought of.

Here's the basic layout so you can get an idea of size and specs.

It all depends on budget, but one (interesting) option to consider is an aluminum rail system, like 80/20 (http://www.8020.net/). Their HT system is much less expensive than the "profile" system. It's very strong, extremely light, extensible, won't corrode, etc. Obviously it's more expensive than 2x4's though. If you search, you can find people who made tank stands, light racks, etc, from it.

Just a thought :)

That's an option. I forgot about that stuff.
I'm just wondering if I'd see any real advantage to using it in this application?
Only thing I could think of is that it would be thinner, allowing a little more elbow room for tanks/equipment on the bottom level.
