I'd use one that's specifically labeled for aquarium us...you can get that at any fish store and Home Depot sells it now, too. It sets (holds what it's meant to hold) fairly quickly but don't put water on it for 48-hours. Then it will be fully cured and fine for being in water.

Whatever you purchase, just be sure it's NOT the type for kitchen and bath. This contains Antibacterial chemicals that will kill your bio-filtration. I use G.E. for windows and doors.
