What kind of substrate?

I havent set up a new large tank in a long time, and I was wondering what you would suggest for FOWL substrate ?

It will be a shallow bed (no more dsbs!) about 1" - 1 1/2".

Would you recommend the super fine sand liek this:
CaribSea Aragamax Sugar-Sized Sand 30 lb
(Aragamax Sugar-Sized Sand: 0.2 - 1.2mm diameter grain size)

or

CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand 40 lb
(1.25â€"œ1.95 mm diameter grain size)

or a mix of the two.

I've had a major tank crash on a DSB recently and it was enough to scare me away from DSB so looking for the substrate and depth of sunbstrate that won't lead to disasterous crashes years down the road.

In my next tank. I am going bare bottom, or a faux sand bed glued to starboard . Right now I have a fine ssb, and have to be careful with the flow, or I get to see the glass bottom.
