I just got my t5s built and now I need a timer for them. I can't use my old timer because it is not made for a grounded plug, so I just wanted to know what everyone else uses.

Thanks,

Stew

They sell digital 3-pronged plug-in timers at Lowe's and Home Depot. Usually they include a battery backup as well. Should be $10-15.

I use a $10 Intermatic heavy duty (standard model doesn't have ground plug) from Lowe's. It's worked well for about 4 months.

Whatever has a ground plug and has the finest increment for time. I think I have three prong timers with 15 minute increments, some are 30 minute incremements. They all work great. Most with the 3 prongs are labelled as appliance timers as mentioned above.

I use a Solar 1000 that I purchased at Champion Lighting about 12 years ago. It adjusts days' length and also has an output for a moonphase. It has served me well and still does so.

Am thinking of upgrading to the Aquacontroller 3 from Neptune as it will replace my Octopus 3000 and the Solar 1000.

Haven't committed the $$$ to do so yet...

I use a heavy duty Intermatic timer. I can't due sunrise and sunset phases, but it does turn my lights on and off.

Does each prong have its own individual on and off settings?
and does it have a specific name?

I use an Aquacontroller Jr. to control everything in my tank including the lighting.

My aquarium controller is the best thing I've bought for my tank. I highly recommend people invest in one.

The home depot digital timers are garbage...I bought one and it broke within a couple hours, the digital part of it is made cheaply and is not very accurate when it comes to setting times for specific days etc...

I just use the home depot standard appliance timers and that works great. I run one for my acntics, one for the moonlights and one for the MH....:D

Three-pronged (i.e. grounded plug), not three outlets. They control only one light, but it can be a grounded-plug type vs only a 2-pronged plug.

I don't know what brand mine are, but they were from Lowe's. They are digital and have a LCD display. The on/off mode switching button on them is triangular. I can take some pics on Tues (out of town now) if there is interest.
