What Makes Elegance So Hard to Take Care Of?

I was reading some article online, and had made me plan on getting an elegance coral. But then it said they were very hard to take care of. Why is that? Just a little curious.

thanks!:D

I did a lot of reading mostly here on RC about elegances and here's what I got out of it. The aussie ones are not hard to take care of, only the ones harvested in the indio region.

The threads general consensus was that a few years ago when they harvested them in the indio waters they came from shallower areas than they do now and would do OK in a aquarium, the ones they are harvesting now are deepwater and much harder to get to live.

The aussie eleganes are pretty hardy, I've had one for three months now, just accasionally feed it, its looked great since the dayI got it and is growing.

The ones coming from indonesia have had survivability problems. However, the aussie ones are doing well as a general rule.

There is good reason to believe that there is a disease common in the indo elegances that wipes them out quickly. People have had elegances that were doing really well for years until they bought a new indo elegance. In these cases, both the new and old elegances would die. People have had the same thing happen when they are not even in the same tank, but different tanks plumbed together. That is why they are "hard to keep," or more like impossible to keep if they have this disease. It is best to stick with the aussie ones for the time being, and still make sure to quarantine all new specimens.

OK, so basically get an Aussie one if you want it to live long term right?

But aren't aussie corals expensive? Not sure, have never boughten aussie corals. I don't plan on spending over $130, $150 would be a stretch.

But thats the only factor that makes these hard to take care of? Nothing like feeding or placement? And can these be placed on the rocks or do they prefer the sand? And how much current, feeding?

And how big do these get?

thanks.

What's the difference between the two? Other than the region.

Is there any color variation? My LFS has a nice one right now. $45.00.
