What one thing would you change?

I would have saved more time to move my stocked Craigslist find tank from Atlanta to Mobile so I wasn't mixing up new saltwater with tap water from the hose at 2:00 am.

..bought a large flat screen tv instead ;)

Seriously though; I wish I had found this site earlier than I did. Took me a few years actually. There were some other sites that were helpful, but I've learned more since I've been on RC than in the 2 or three years before that.

Also, saving up and buying the right item the first time, instead of blowing money on cheap stuff.

Finally, not using a sump early on. Sumps are great, and add so much to a tank.

I don't know that I would've done anything differently. I read about the hobby for at least a year before getting the courage to try it  I was so scared I would kill everything. And I've killed most of it :

So far lost:
1 picasso clownfish
1 yellow clown goby
1 yasha haze goby
1 potter's angel (recently)

I still have
1 picasso clownfish
1 yasha goby with it's pistol shrimp
1 new H. Melanurus in QT at the moment

I did buy PC's before I bought halide, but I can always use the PC's as a back up or on a different tank. I don't regret that.

I'm really entertaining the idea of a vortech mp20 for my tank :)

Well my remaining clown fish is biting the dust. So far I've lost $273 in this hobby.

It included the shipping fees, what it cost to get a particular fish to me, where applicable. I'm not going to tell my hubby this figure....I just may get shut down...

i would have paid attention to my researched and bought all the equipment that i need first. not just get by with what i had that i knew was under sized. added all the live rock at once instead of buying a rock or to as i could afford it. added a PO4 reactor at startup instead of battling algae for 2 years. added a refuge at startup. what am i saying, i learned so much from my mistakes and accomplishments that next time when I'm ready to upgrade again i will know what I'm doing. I think that this Hobie is so challenging for me thats what keeps me interested. scared of the day when everything is perfect and all i have to do is sit back and watch. Oh yea, i wish i would have found RC earlier in life. That would have helped also.

I would have considered doing a bare bottom setup, because my vortecs suck up and blow the sand all over the place sometimes. I can't turn them up as high as I'd like to.
