what pump size to use for 375g?

Will a sequence reflo dart pump good enough to use for return on a 375g ? The tank will have 2x 1nch return pipes then reduced to 3/4inch at the seaswirl.

I use a Dart for close loop for my 120G, and it works great. But I read Dart does not handle head pressure well, and will put out less GPH as return pump.

Hi Tong, For a CL I might need a more powerfull pump but I just need a return pump. Do you think I should get a hammer instead? How your new tank goin?

Hi Perry, sorry I never worked on a tank of your size, and do not know what are the proper sizes. But for sure Dart is not big enough for your CL, as it is just right for my 120G tank. I saw one guy using a dart as return pump on a Oceanic 120G tank with two normal sized overflows, and it does not seems to put out more GPH than my 1200GPH pump.

I broke down all my other tanks, and put most of things in the new tank. Luckily I had very few losses during the move, and everything is recovering in the new tank. The sad thing is my tank is already overcrowded with my small frags, should have gone for a bigger tank. Below is a couple of pictures I just took, one with flash and one without. The freshly cooked rocks do not look very colorful.

Hi tong, your tank looks very nice. One of the reason why I want to go bigger this time is because I can easily over grow the tank.

H Phuong, the overflows are 30x12x5 about 5gal each. The drain pipe will be 1.5 on each overflows. Should I make the overflow bigger?

I think each OF can do about 1400GPH. You have two so it's somewhere around 2500-2800GPH.

It would be hard to say what kinda pump you need when we don't really know how you gonna set it up.
Dart flow rate at 4' head is about 2800GPH. I guess it's fine if it's only push the water 4'-5' high.

hmm, the dart is really good for closed loop applications, but I believe you may get better results with your application using a different pump.

The wattage and head loss that you'll suffer won't be worth it compared to some other pressure rated pump.

I think the panworld's do a good job with the pressure constraints in returns / seaswirls.

my recommendation would be to just do a regular return with two spray bar outlets (for even flow) and then do some kind of closed loop with the swirls.

The dart wouldn't be enough for the closed loop either, but it's bigger brothers like the hammerhead and barracuda would do great.

I know panworlds are kinda loud though, so beware. =/
