What reef fishes

What reef fish would be good for a reef tank that feed mostly in the water instead of from my live sand?

Thanks,

Yep, we need more information. Specifically:
- tank size
- tank inhabitants (crabs, shrimp, what type of coral?)

Tell us more about the system, and what you're looking for in a fish -- personality? Colour? Fish that stay near the rockwork, or swim in open water?

Take a look through the 'reef fishes' area of the forum, there's more info there than you could possibly read :)

A general answer: wrasses, cardinals, basslets, damsels/clowns/chromis (all the same general family), dartfish, dottybacks, some gobies.

For a more detailed response, we'll need tank size & what corals you plan to keep in your reef (as mentioned above).

You can go look at liveaquaria.com and browse through the fish there, each has general details on what/where it eats and hangs out in the water column. It also gives good guidelines on appropriate tank size and aggression.

You might want to tell us what fishes you currently have in there. A lot of the Tangs are reef safe, but is also dependent on the fish. You might need to keep a watch on them to make sure they don't nip your corals.

There's no way I could click on every profile of every person I try to help to try to find out basic info! Good on you for doing so while this system is so slow, though!

I guess my question now would be: why this question from someone with so much more experience than most here? I should be asking HIM questions!

Hey SushiGirl, agree that the TS should provide enough information instead of requiring a PI to track down their setup. The profile did sound a bit...fishy? But this is an internet forum an we're all here to help out.

My tank is mostly sps with a few lps and a couple of clams.my cuc is all snails,of one type or another. I try to keep fish that don't bother my live sand that much. As far as my question on this forum, I wanted to compare what other reefers have to what I have. (5) Lyretail Anthias, (5) Vanderbuilt Chromas, (4) Firefish Gobies. These fish feed primarily in the water column, stay quite small and add a lot of activity to my aquarium. One of the best things I like about my aquarium is it doesn't smell fishy, that way it doesn't try to start a flame.

Thanks for your replies,

Cloyd A.
