I'm stepping up and I'm going to start mixing my own salt water. So what slt do you use?
I've got a reef tank and a soon to be clown tank. Lets hear it! I know y'all have your favorites, what is it?

Instant Ocean, then switched to Oceanic. Used it until the 5 gallon bucket was exhausted. Got some hair algae issues and kept getting a brown residue on the bottom of my mixing bucket so I switched back to IO. Guess that's what I get for buying into the initial hype about that salt. My tank has never looked better since switching back to IO. HA issue are gone as well  .

I think Oceanic and Instant Ocean are the ones at my LFS anybody else want to chime in on their favorites and why?
Thanks again

i use IO/oceanic mix, 50/50. recently switched from crystal seas. i didn't like it at all.

I have been using BioSea with great results, and have stepped up to the mother of all salts; Marine Environment. The LFS charges $75 for Instant Ocean!! For the same money, I can buy the best salt on the market (my opinion of course.)

TM Pro Reef. I buy it from Fosters and Smith b/c they don't charge the additional weight fee that most on line retailers charge for the 200 gallon bucket.

There are a lot of thread about which salt do you use.

As of right now I am using IO, but I plan on buying some Oceanic to up my calcium level. My reason for doing this is that I read that a lot of bigger SPS keepers do a 50/50 combo of the two becuause...

Oceanic has a high calcium content but lacks other elements while
IO has a low calcium content.

Second Question:

Where do I get my salt. I get my salt at Petsmart because they honor their online prices as long as you print it out, and they are local.

Good info fickle. Petsmart was my other choice to buy it. i knew there were other threads but I couldn't get the search to work so.. I'm leaning towards the IO b/c I drip Kalk in my reef tank and I'm not sure the clowns are going to have a very good calcification rate anyways tahnks to all that posted!!

I use Tropic Marin since three and a half cups of Instant ocean give me about 1.020 in 5 gallons of RO water, and the exact same amount of Tropic Marin gives me 1.024, which quite a bit more. And it's only $67 including shipping for the 200 gal bucket on liveaquaria.com. Count out gallons per dollar for the 160 gal bucket of instant ocean and 200 gal bucket of TM, and it's very near the same. Been great for me so far
