What salt mix should I use ?

IO always. Tried and true. My guess is anyone having algae issues are not due to the salt

The only think I do is reduce the alkalinity to 8 with HCl

interesting, I've heard of Chemicals that lower ALK but never heard details.

Please describe how you use HCL.

In what form to you dose this "HCL" to only lower ALK and not affect anything else?

Eddie I also use acid to neutralize alk in my water. I use muriatic acid. About 20ml in 40 gallons brings the dkh down about 2. Been doing this for a couple years now no issues. There is a formula Randy posted some time ago but I just eyeball it. You just have to make sure you let it mix for a while with good surface agitation so the ph neutralizes somewhat.
